FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about LoRaWAN, LPWAN, protocol integration and how we work.

What does a LoRaWAN solutions company do?

A LoRaWAN solutions company designs and delivers complete wireless IoT systems: selecting sensors and gateways, planning RF coverage, configuring the network server, integrating data with platforms such as BMS, CAFM or SCADA, and deploying and supporting the network. MatrixAI provides this end-to-end service in the UAE and GCC.

Can MatrixAI connect our existing Modbus, BACnet or M-Bus equipment to LoRaWAN?

Yes. Protocol conversion is a core capability. We use Modbus-to-LoRaWAN, BACnet-to-LoRaWAN, M-Bus-to-LoRaWAN, pulse, analog and digital I/O converters so existing meters and equipment can be monitored wirelessly without replacement. Compatibility is validated per device model.

Do you deploy private LoRaWAN networks?

Yes. We design and deploy private LoRaWAN networks including gateway selection and placement, 4G/Ethernet backhaul and network servers such as ChirpStack, hosted on-premise or in the cloud.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Block B, Innovation Park, Sharjah, and deliver projects across the UAE — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates — and the wider GCC.

How do we start a project?

Send us a project enquiry with your site, assets and existing systems. A LoRaWAN specialist will review it, usually recommend an RF/site assessment or pilot, and propose a solution architecture.

What is the difference between LoRa and LoRaWAN?

LoRa is the radio modulation technology; LoRaWAN is the network protocol that runs on top of it and defines device joining, security, gateways and network servers.

How long do LoRaWAN sensor batteries last?

Many battery-powered LoRaWAN sensors are designed for multi-year operation. Actual life depends on reporting interval, radio conditions and the amount of data sent, which we size during design.

Is LoRaWAN secure?

LoRaWAN uses AES-128 encryption at network and application level. We also harden gateways and servers, manage keys securely and secure integrations with TLS and access control.

Can LoRaWAN control equipment, not just monitor it?

Yes, through LoRaWAN downlink. Class C devices such as relays, valves, thermostats and streetlight controllers can receive commands within seconds. LoRaWAN is used for supervisory control, not fast or safety-critical loops.

When should we use LoRa Mesh instead of LoRaWAN?

LoRa Mesh is an architecture option for difficult RF environments such as deep basements, plant rooms, dense indoor sites and warehouses. It is often combined with LoRaWAN in a hybrid architecture rather than replacing it.

Can you provide IoT engineers for our own projects?

Yes. We provide LoRaWAN/IoT solution architects, embedded and firmware engineers, backend/API and platform engineers, integration, field commissioning and QA/testing engineers.

Do you supply devices as well as engineering?

Yes. We supply energy, water and BTU meters, HVAC and IAQ sensors, thermostats, protocol converters, gateways, streetlight controllers and waste sensors — selected to fit the architecture.

Didn't find your answer?

Tell us about your site, assets and existing systems. A LoRaWAN specialist will review your requirements and propose a practical architecture — no obligation.
